Amiga 500 ATA hard disk interface Amiga 500 ATA hard disk interfacebyAboutThis is an ATA hard disk interface board, for the Amiga 500. It's mostlyinspired by similar projects documented in aminet, and particularly. It's designed to connect on the Zorro expansion port on the left sideof the amiga, and it's compatible with thedriverincluded in in theaforementioned archive. A bootstrapfloppy disk is necessary to mount the hard disk and pass control to thestartup-sequence on the hard disk itself for the full workbenchinitialization. You need to make a bootstrap floppy which contains:.

So I have an Amiga 500 with an A590 Hard Disk that I want to put Workbench 1.3 onto. The problem is, I have no Workbench disks at all and can't find any for reasonable prices on ebay.
I'm pretty sure people have asked this before but, is it at all possible to use an emulator or other program on a PC or older Macintosh to create a Workbench floppy disk? If not, is there any other way to get Workbench onto the Amiga? I've heard of the null modem serial cables to transfer data but from what I can gather that needs some OS loaded on the Amiga.
Any help would be appreciated:). I bought mine back in the day on a reseller here in spain, but even back then was a bit pricey. The card was redesigned with a fpga and the possibility of taking 2 sid chips for use in emulators, as well as providing joystick ports. For me it was worth it, but you have to check if it fits your need. If i'm not mistaken, there was also a version with zorro connector for use in real amigas, allowing to use directly pc drives without modification, but i'm not sure if it is still sold today.
I actually just thought of doing that, the drive inside my A590 is just a Quantum ProDive LPS SCSI disk (it's actually an Apple branded drive so I'm guessing it's not the original). I have an old PC with an ISA SCSI controller but it's a Pentium 133MHz with 32MB of RAM so I'm guessing it doesn't quite have horsepower for UAE?Oh and the drive controller inside the A590 has an 8 bit (I think) IDE port on it. I doubt it would be much use since I don't have an IDE drive old enough for it though.
